RAILS Library System Card Holders

   If you are not a member of SWAN but have a library card from another Illinois public library, we will add a barcode to your card to enable you to check out items from our collection (and also from any other of the 80+ SWAN member libraries). Please go to the Circulation desk and present your up-to-date library card and proper identification (see the acceptable ID list under "Oak Lawn Residents" on this page).

 

Chicago Cardholders

   Chicago residents may also check out items from the Oak Lawn Public Library. Please come into the library and present your current Chicago Public Library card along with proper identification (see the acceptable ID list under "Oak Lawn Residents" on this page). We will then add your information to our database, which will enable you to check out materials at any of the 80+ SWAN member libraries. Or, if you are a Chicago resident and have an up-to-date "RAILS" or "Metropolitan Library System" card, you may use that card here.

 

Business/Property Owners

   The right to use the Oak Lawn Public Library is extended to non-resident owners of taxable Oak Lawn property or businesses. A business owner or officer may apply for a card by presenting proper identification and a current tax bill or a letter on the business’ stationery requesting such service, signed by a business owner or officer.  Only one card may be issued to a property or business owner.

Oak Lawn Residents

   Anyone who resides in Oak Lawn is eligible to get a library card!  Applicants must be 16 years of age or older to obtain or renew their own library card.  Patrons under the age of 16 must have a legal guardian present to obtain or renew a card.


   Get a Temporary Card: APPLY ONLINE!  Applying online will enable you to use the library's online resources as well as to place up to three reserves on materials from any SWAN libraries through the library's Encore catalog.  You must then come into the library within 14 days and show identification to our Circulation Desk staff, who will create your permanent library card at that time.  Click here to apply for your temporary card online.

    Get a Permanent Card:  Apply IN PERSON at the Circulation Desk.  Please present a driver's license, state identification or other government-issued card with a photo and your current address.  If you do not have one of these forms of ID, the following proof of residency forms with current address may be used but must be accompanied by a photo ID printed with the patrons's name (such as a school ID, a passport or an immigration card): A utility bill, motor vehicle registration card, property transfer certificate, lease or mortgage papers, voter registration card, senior citizen membership card, class schedule, Public Aid card or medical aid ID card, envelope with a postal change of address label and current postmark, current magazine with mailing label, pre-printed checks, or any pre-printed form of a current bill with name and address.

   Parents or legal guardians must present proof of residency as listed above and must sign the child's application card assuming responsibility for materials lent to patrons under the age of 16.

   If a card is lost or stolen, please notify the library immediately so we can stop your card.
