Customer Services Department Head

The Oak Lawn Public Library seeks a dynamic and community-focused Department Head, Grade XII, to manage the evolving Customer Services Department. The Department currently consists of circulation, interlibrary loan, homebound delivery, and volunteers. The Customer Services Department Head reports to the Director, serves as a key member of the management team, and is integral to all Library offerings.
The Department Head must love working with the public and must be able to lead staff in creating a welcoming environment; must supervise the production of high-quality experiences for patrons; must understand and utilize current technology; must be able to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively; must oversee the development of procedures for the circulation of materials; and must supervise day-to-day operations of the Department.
This position is an exempt, 37.5 hour per week position, including daytime, evening, and weekend hours. The annual salary starts at $56,071.44, depending on qualifications. The Customer Services Department Head position requires a master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school, four years of professional practice, progressive supervisory responsibilities, ability to work with and supervise people of diverse backgrounds, dedication to exceptional customer service, talent to respond thoughtfully to patrons’ concerns, knowledge of current trends, experience with budgeting and scheduling, and aptitude for effective communication.
